Sustainability

Commitment to Sustainability

Through its Second Nature Programme, Viceroy Hotel Group employs a team approach to preserving resources, reducing water and decreasing the resort's carbon footprint. In addition to staged implementation of practices to conserve water and energy, Viceroy Anguilla uses biodegradable cleaning products, paper supplies and electronics.

Sustainable Design Features

In addition to landscaping designed to preserve and enhance the natural surroundings, the resort infrastructure includes environmentally responsible elements including:

  • State-of-the-art 250,000-gallon reverse-osmosis plant for water purification
  • An on-site central energy plant provides consistent power to the resort
  • Rooftop rainwater collection system with underground water storage cisterns
  • HVAC shut-down when terrace doors open
  • Green roofs on multiple buildings
  • Electric carts available

Community Involvement

As committed partners in the economic, social and cultural development of Anguilla, Viceroy is pleased to participate in charitable giving that benefits the entire island community. Since breaking ground on the island in 2007, Viceroy and its developers have contributed nearly $1.5 million US toward the establishment and operation of the Anguilla National Community College, the completion of a school at West End, and two new school buses; another $1 million US has been pledged by the resort and its corporate parent for a new school at Island Harbor.

Recycling Programme

On Anguilla, Viceroy Hotel Group negotiated with local officials and shipping companies to send island recyclables to Miami for appropriate processing in containers that once left the island empty; previously, the British West Indian isle had no organized recycling programme. In concert with the local community, the resort is pursuing additional conservation and sustainability measures to help maintain the island's pristine environment and resources.
